We’re carbon neutral

The pork industry plays an enormous role in nourishing billions of people worldwide, but it also consumes resources and impacts our planet. At Canada Packers, we’re working towards creating a sustainable pork production system and contributing to a more sustainable protein industry. The future of the planet and the food industry depends on all of us.

We are committed to being a carbon neutral pork processing business. Our carbon management strategy prioritizes avoiding and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and for the remaining currently unavoidable emissions, purchasing high-quality, verified carbon offsets that meet our rigorous policies and principles to neutralize our emissions.

We care about our animals

We’ve created a culture of caring and accountability for the animals we raise. We embrace practices that enhance animal well-being, and we work closely with our animal care leaders to advance high standards of care throughout our production supply chain.

The majority of our owned sows are housed in an innovative Advanced Open Sow Housing system. They have the freedom to roam, eat, sleep, and socialize when they want.

We are among North America’s largest producers of Raised Without Antibiotics (RWA) pork. The pigs in our RWA program never receive antibiotics for any purpose. If a pig or sow becomes sick, our veterinarians may determine if treatment is the most humane option. When this occurs, the pigs are removed from our RWA product channel.

The Five Freedoms and Five Domains of animal welfare

At Canada Packers, our animal care program considers both the Five Freedoms and the Five Domains to provide the best possible lives for our animals.

We make safe food

Our commitment involves continuous training for Team Members, regular audits, and updating processes to meet evolving safety standards.

We aim to create an outstanding food safety record, not letting our guard down. Ongoing vigilance is our best tool in delivering food products that are as safe as we can make them.

We protect our people

Our Occupational Health and Safety goal is clear and ambitious: zero occupational injuries. We promote a workplace safety culture that encourages people to follow safety protocols, to use safety equipment, to identify hazards, and to speak up when they have any concerns.

Our plants have been developed with our Team Members' safety top of mind. We are committed to a future of safety.
