Suzanne Hathaway

Interim Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary

Suzanne Hathaway is currently the Interim Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Canada Packers where she leads the company’s legal, governance, and corporate affairs functions. She assumed this position after completing the successful spin-off of Canada Packers from Maple Leaf Foods, where she guided the complex transaction that established Canada Packers as an independent public company.

Prior to spin-off, Suzanne served as Maple Leaf Foods’ Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Communications and Corporate Secretary where she was responsible for all legal, governance, and stakeholder communications matters during a period of significant transformation.  

Before joining Maple Leaf Foods, Suzanne was a senior executive with a leading Canadian energy infrastructure company where she had broad responsibilities in areas including law, governance, sustainability and community engagement. Her leadership and innovation in this role earned her recognition as a finalist in the “Tomorrow’s Leader” category of the Canadian General Counsel Awards.

Earlier in her career, Suzanne spent over a decade in communications and government relations. During this time she authored a book on the history of rural municipal government in Alberta which was published by the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (now the Rural Municipalities of Alberta). Suzanne currently sits on the Board of the Maple Leaf Foods Centre for Food Security and previously served on the Independent Review Committee of Alberta Treasury Branches Investment Management and the Board of Governors of Bow Valley College.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Suzanne studied at the University of Calgary where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Bachelor of Laws, and a Master of Communications Studies. She is a Member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Ontario.
