LeeAnn Peters is the Vice President, Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Animal Care at Canada Packers. Her accountabilities include animal health and welfare, nutrition, regulatory and compliance, food safety and quality from farm to fork.

With 27 years in the pork industry, LeeAnn has extensive knowledge of the business, having held positions in animal production, animal nutrition, continuous improvement and technical services.

In her previous role as Director, Technical Services at Maple Leaf Foods, LeeAnn’s technical services leadership has driven operational improvements and cost savings in the areas of animal health, welfare and nutrition, on-farm food safety, quality and innovation, and medication/supply purchasing and warehousing. She has also played key roles in the execution of best-in-class initiatives, including the Advanced Open Sow Housing conversions, the Raised Without Antibiotics production program, and developing Maple Leaf Foods’ African Swine Fever emergency and response plans.

LeeAnn’s passion for understanding the epidemiology and production impacts of animal diseases has resulted in the publication of co-authored peer reviewed papers, one modelling the transmission of African Swine Fever and one on the previously undocumented amphixenosic behaviour of Streptococcus Zooepidemicus in domestic swine.

LeeAnn holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree, with an Animal Science Major from the University of Manitoba. She is a registered Professional Agrologist and currently serves as a councillor on the provincial board. Her focus on animal welfare is supported by Professional Animal Auditor certifications for live hog and slaughter facilities.
