Mauricio Alanis

Vice President, Strategy & Sustainability

Mauricio Alanis is the Vice President, Strategy & Sustainability at Canada Packers. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading strategy development as well as developing and executing a world-class sustainability program for Canada Packers.

With more than 17 years of experience at Maple Leaf Foods, Mauricio held diverse and progressively senior roles in Sales and Marketing, leading the Innovation team, and working as a Production Supervisor in Manufacturing. He also spent significant time in Corporate Strategy and serving in the Office of the CEO to former CEO Michael McCain.

In his previous role as Director of Sustainability Strategy & Regenerative Agriculture Lead at Maple Leaf Foods, he focused on designing decarbonization pathways and initiating strategic shared value projects that reduced Maple Leaf Foods' greenhouse gas emissions while benefiting the organization. This role involved extensive collaboration with various internal teams and external partners to advance the sustainability agenda and help progress towards the company's Science-Based Targets. Additionally, Mauricio led the Regenerative Agriculture portfolio for four years and oversaw sustainability reporting and disclosure and the development of an emerging biodiversity and nature strategy for Maple Leaf Foods.

Mauricio holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. He has native fluency in Spanish and beginner level in French and Mandarin Chinese, having lived in Taipei, Taiwan. He was the former chair for the Steering Committee for CANZA’s (the Canadian Alliance for Net Zero Agri-Food) Climate Smart Farming Initiative and sits on the Protein Manitoba board.
